Today is March 8, and it’s National Women’s Day~!
There are Women all around you, whether they be Family, Friends or someone you happen to see now / then.
Make a Woman Smile today! No matter if you know them or not… Just say Hey, Happy Women’s Day to you!
Wear a purple ribbon or flower to Celebrate the Honor of Women everywhere!
So when did International Women’s Day begin? How did it all start?
It’s a celebration and acknowledgement of the achievements of women. Organizations use this day to educate and bring awareness to the plight of women around the world; whether they be economic, human rights related, or political in nature.
The Socialist Party of America designated February 28, 1909 as
National Women’s Day. It was celebrated on this day until 1913
when it was moved to March 8th globally.
What started as a Socialist party initiative is now a recognized
holiday, support by the United Nations.
International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
There are many extraordinary Women in our Group, I am privileged to align myself with!
This woman works – originally posted on wamathai.com
She is the epitome of strength
The sun from which all seek life,
Under her breast, we are nourished
In her embrace, we are warmed.
This woman works,
Cultivates her field as the sun rises
Stirs her pot as the sun sets.
This woman, my mother.
She is the continuation of a lineage
The link between past and future
The present, a missing rib to one son of Adam.
Her eyes are not only windows to the soul
But a reflection of her society.
This woman works,
Gains knowledge in books and art
The light that guides all around her.
This woman, my sister.
She is the glue that pieces together a broken heart
The blanket of warmth from a cold shoulder
Rosa Parks on a bus seat
She symbolizes beliefs and faith.
This woman works
The star that shines in the darkest of nights
The way that bears the will of a people.
This woman, my lover and friend.
This woman works
And today I celebrate her.
Enjoy your day, my Beautiful Sisters!
